The charming towns of St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf are nestled in a picturesque valley flanked by two of the Kitzbühel Alps most famous mountains, the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Kaiser Massif.
Every year at the end of August the region plays host to one of the world’s largest cycling events, drawing riders from 56 different countries.
Taking place August 20 – 27, 2016, there are following different events: International Radweltpokal, Juniors Cycling Cup, the Airport Sprint, the Mountain Sprint and the Masters Cycling Classic Championships.
The RADWELTPOKAL is a first ever event that gives amateurs from 18 to 80+ years of age a chance to test their mettle on a challenging course. Riders compete on 1 to 3 loops of 40 kilometers. The loop has an elevation gain of 190 meters, max. gradient is 10%. Key points include the dreaded Huberhöhe, a strenuous climb with an elevation gain of 100 meters over only 4 kilometers, and Schwendt, where another short but steep climb awaits the riders.
The JUNIORS CYCLING CUP is designed for girls and boys from 10 to 17 years, and offers various distances for all levels. The top 3 winners of each age group will get award medals. New this year is the airport sprint on tuesday. Riders start 30 seconds apart and will race 1.000 m against the clock. The award ceremonies take place directly after the event; On wednesday riders have to cycle 10 or 20 km at the time trail in Erpfendorf. The award ceremonies take place at the medal plaza.
The AIRPORT SPRINT is new this year. Riders race 1,000 m against the clock. The award ceremonies take place directly after the event.
The MOUNTAIN SPRINT starts at the base terminal Harschbichl and finishes at the Berghotel Pointenhof, which is 1,000 meters above sea level. The award ceremonies take place also at Pointenhof.
Only riders who hold a licence are allowed to participate on the MASTERS CYCLING CLASSIC events, which will take place from Wednesday until Saturday.
The Individual Time Trial races remain unchanged from 2015. Riders start 30 seconds apart and then race 20 kilometers against the clock. Start and finish of the time trial races are in Erpfendorf, turning point is Lofererberg.
Awards are presented to the top riders at the Awards Banquet held daily at Kaisersaal. Evening entertainment and events will bring fun for riders and fans of all ages.
